Barbara Routliffe’s Books
Percy the Penguin's Very Important Discovery is a charming children's picture book written and illustrated by the students of Ms. Routliffe's and Mme. Kelly's Kindergarten KPB Class at St. Brigid School in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Created in collaboration with their teachers, this special publishing project celebrates the creativity, imagination, and voices of young authors and illustrators while introducing readers to the wonders of Antarctica.
In the story, Percy the Penguin wishes he were different. Convinced that everyone else has something he doesn't, Percy sets off on an adventure across Antarctica to discover what he's missing. Along the way, he encounters unforgettable wildlife, learns fascinating facts about the frozen continent, and makes one very important discovery about himself.
Perfect for families, classrooms, and libraries, Percy the Penguin's Very Important Discovery blends adventure, gentle humor, and educational nonfiction elements with a timeless message about self-acceptance and appreciating the unique qualities that make each of us special.
Even more meaningful, proceeds from the book benefit the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Antarctica and its wildlife, allowing this remarkable student-created book to make a difference both in readers' lives and in the world.
We thoroughly enjoyed this project because it provided our students with a meaningful opportunity to integrate literacy into their learning in an authentic and engaging way. Hex24 Press definitely made the book creating process so easy. Their involvement played an important part in turning my students' ideas into a finished book and I am so grateful for their support.
